

The Foundation is a no-profit organisation that was founded in 2021 through the initiative of South Africans who saw the need to preserve and protect the legacy of one of the SA giants of radio and TV drama, Dr Khotso Nkhatho.
Dr Khotso Nkhatho has been an inspiration for the past and present generations of black people living in South Africa and neighbouring countries like Lesotho. A lot of us grew up listening to Mophemeon Radio Sesotho (now Lesedi Fm) in the 70s and we were the first to see Tshitsoon television (TV 3) in the 80s. TV was uncommon and strange among black communities in those days, to see a black actor in a starring role on the screens filled us with pride. Dr Nkhatho became part of us then, and he still is to this day. The endless number of stories he wrote for radio and TV, kept the pulse of nation beating. Many South Africans who have followed your work will agree that your artistic abilities enabled you to tell our stories, rural or urban, the only way they could resonate with us, your audience. Another initiative taken by the Foundation was to establish the Dr Khotso Nkhatho Lecture in 2021. Lecturers from different social, academic and professional backgrounds, are either requested or volunteer to present lectures. The lectures aim to address challenges our communities face by relating the arts and the role that Dr Khotso Nkhatho and the Foundation play in changing the people's lives.
